This and That

Happy Thursday everyone; I can hardly believe another week is almost over.  I hope you had a wonderful Fourth of July holiday.

I seem to be stuck in a bit of a rut at the moment.  I feel like I've had a big case of blogger's block.  ;)  I can find plenty to talk about, but it wouldn't be a good idea to put it on my blog.  I'll bet you've felt that way a time or two yourself, huh?  So, moving along, I do have a few little things to show you today -- nothing too exciting.  The heat and humidity has settled in here, and I just can't get in the mood to do much when it's this hot.

I did get the porch flowers planted.

I planted almost the exact same things as last year, with the exception of Verbena.  I didn't think it did all that well on our porch last year.  I almost didn't find my Caladiums this year.  I got a late start on plant shopping due to being out of town for a week and then being sick for two more weeks.  I was thrilled to find these lovelies.

Last year I planted a tassel fern; this year I planted an autumn fern.  I'm hoping to put it into the ground at the end of summer, as these are supposed to be perennials.

I got a new summer flag this year; my others were really old and starting to look it.  I love the bright, cheerful colors.  :)

Last but not least, we finally got the vanity/dressing table that goes with this bedroom suite out of storage.  I've got some serious cleaning and touch-ups to do, and this will be a pretty piece.  This mirror is in such bad shape, and I don't think I can make it look like it needs to.

Here's a closer look at the mirror.  I'm sure it must have been pretty at one time, but the finish on the base is almost completely worn off. There are finials for the posts on either side, but the dowels have broken off in the holes, and we'd have to dig those out before we can put the finials back in.

I don't know how to refinish furniture (wish I did).  However, we've found a solution to the mirror problem, and when everything's all cleaned up and put back in place, I'll share with you.  I'm really enjoying this guest bedroom.  It also came in very handy when I was sick and didn't want to disturb my husband at night.

Well, that's all I've got.  What have you been doing this summer -- anything fun, or just trying to stay cool?  Thank you so much for reading my blog -- I really appreciate your interest and hope you'll come back!

Bye For Now,

Denise

  2. I always like reading about the every day-ness of fellow blogger's lives. Your geraniums look to be the same colour as the ones I've planted in pots.

  3. Everything looks happy and healthy Denise! The caladiums are very pretty, if you're worried about not finding them next year you might want to save the bulbs, just something to kick around:@)

  4. Well, I think this was a very nice post! I too feel at times that I'm loosing my blogging mind and even get a little tired of blogging, even though I love it. We just need to take a break sometimes. Now your flowers are so pretty and I like the mixture you've put together. The dresser is just gorgeous! Thanks for popping in to see me.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  5. I really like your pots on your porch. That vanity/dresser is going to be fabulous in your guest room for sure! This summer has been all about our son's wedding and after wedding house guests. The last two left last night and now we are organizing and getting our basement ready for our daughter and son-in-law to move in with us! Never a dull moment around here...
