Hooray for Eli and the New York Giants!!
For the second time in five years, they beat the highly ranked New England Patriots to win the Super Bowl. What an exciting game -- it was a nail-biter down to the very last second!
I have long been a fan of the Manning brothers. First it was Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts, and then as Eli carved out his place in the world of NFL football, he has also become a favorite. The thing is, there are lots of good quarterbacks out there. But what I like about these two brothers is not just their intense love of the game of football and their competitive spirit. It's also the way they conduct themselves -- on the field and off. I have respect for the Manning family as a whole (hope I don't get disappointed later down the road). But in a culture where so many of our celebrities frequently cause us to cringe with shame, it's refreshing to see that some do have a modicum of decency and integrity. I'll step down from my soapbox now. :)
So now my question for you is: Do you feel like a sports widow during football, basketball, etc. season, or do you get into the spirit of watching the games with your husband? I grew up in a house where my dad watched football (college and pro) from the beginning of the season until the grand finale -- the Super Bowl. So I'm used to watching football, and for the most part, I enjoy it. We always watched the Olympic Games at our house, too.
But since I've been married, I've added the Tour De France to my list of sporting events I watch on television. My husband has always liked watching it, and he got me interested, as well. I mostly watch it for the gorgeous scenery, about three weeks worth of it, in fact. But after I finally got some understanding of how the big cycling events work, I actually got interested in that aspect as well. We usually find a favorite, or two, every year and root for them.
And speaking of watching things on TV, I finally managed to get the first two episodes of "Downton Abbey" on Netflix, and I'm already hooked. I even got the hubby to watch with me; can't wait for the next installment. But we're behind most everyone else in watching the series, so I hope I don't get too many spoilers before we can catch up.
Thank you for your visit and have a great day!
