Fall Front Porch 2021

I'm very glad to see October -- how about you?  Such a lovely month of changing foliage, early morning mists, blue skies, and beautiful sunsets.  Today we've had Irish weather, as my husband says.  It's been alternating rain and sunshine for most of the day, and the rain has been such a nice, gentle one.     

      

   

Progress On Our Yard

Hi everyone!  I hope you're having a good week, and I'm glad you're here.      Today I'm sharing our major tree removal project with you; this work has been going on for a period of about three weeks (off and on).  Next week, the stump grinder will be here to take care of all that remains of these monster trees.  We put this project off for a long time because we knew the cost would be prohibitive, and it was.  By the time the stumps have been ground, we will have spent about $20,000 and some change on this.  For that kind of money, we could have had a sunroom added on to the back of our house, which I've wanted to do for years.  But...then we would be constantly worrying that these trees would drop a massive limb on the sunroom, or worse, one of the trees would get struck by lightening and fall on the house.  Among their many "endearing" qualities, poplars are also known to be lightening magnets.  😏     

   

   

Happy St. Patrick's Day -- And the Floors are Done

A Happy St. Patrick's Day to you!  I love when St. Pat's Day falls on the weekend, but I'm sorry to say I haven't prepared anything Irish for today.  We've just been too busy here for the last month or so.  You can click on my sidebar pictures to read older posts from St. Patrick's Day.

As for the new floors, yesterday was Day 2 and they finished everything!  The job was scheduled for three days, but it only took two.  They had three men here working hard both days; I was really impressed with their work.  The upshot of this is that I have an extra day before the weekend to start putting things back in place.  The verdict on the floors -- we think the flooring company did an excellent job, and we absolutely love the floors.  What a huge difference they will make to the look of our house.

Hello March!

I've been away from my blog for almost a month -- again.  I took a break to get some things done around here.  I have to tell you, it sure feels good to be back.  :)  I really miss my blog if I'm away for too long -- are you like that, too?

Here are a few of the things we've been up to...

On Valentine's Day, we tried a new (to us) restaurant in the heart of downtown.  It's an Italian restaurant called "Quanto Basta."  The food was delicious, and it was fun to look out on the downtown area from our table.

Upcoming House Projects

Happy Wednesday everyone!  I hope you're having a good week.  I've mentioned off and on for about two years now that we're going to get our den carpet replaced.  Well, we've finally started moving with that project.  We've made our selection and are waiting to hear when the installation date will be.

A New View

I had planned to wait and do a post on this after the next project is done in order to show you a more complete version of our latest update.  I went outside just to snap a few pictures yesterday, and then I got so excited I decided to go ahead and do a mini-post.
