Butterflies and Bees Tablescape

Back when it was still spring of this year -- before the heat descended in a big, moist, hot blanket, I set up a table in the dining room using my Butterfly Meadow dishes.  I do a table with these most years because I think they're just so pretty in the spring (and summer).  If you are a regular reader here, you know we went to the beach twice in close succession, had a death in my family, and then Hal and I both caught Covid.  The table just sat there languishing -- dishes in place, but no centerpiece.  I thought about just putting the dishes away because I'd lost the initial spark to take pictures and write a post.  But then, our new butterfly bush bloomed and my limelight hydrangea has about three times as many blossoms as last year, so I decided to make a centerpiece for the table and take pictures.

We have three lamps in this room and an overhead chandelier, but the lighting in here is still hard to get right.  The walls on the left side of the room look a different color than the walls on the right.  We need a different kind of bulb in the picture lamp on the right wall.  Anyway, I've tried to make the best of the light in here.  I took pictures at night, in the morning, afternoon, and at twilight.

A picture of said centerpiece.  😊  The larger flowers are the limelights, there are some tiny, white clusters which are from our crape myrtle trees, and the purple spikes are from our butterfly bush. When Hal saw my flower arrangement, he said more than once how pretty it was.  The truth is, we're still getting used to having flowers to pick from our own yard.

The antique pressed-glass water pitcher is a favorite of mine.  It was a gift from Hal's grandmother many years ago.

The dinner plate here is "Classic White," by Lenox.  The middle plate is Lenox "Butterfly Cloud," and the top plate is "Butterfly Meadow."  This top dish may be my favorite one in the pattern; it's what made me think of using flowers from the butterfly bush.  I love the lavender-colored blooms!

I also love these blue cornflowers.

Not only do these dishes have butterflies, but they also feature ladybugs and bees.  The La Rochere bee glasses and Napolean Bee flatware coordinate well with the theme of blooms and pollinators.

Also on the table is my current favorite table runner, which we purchased last fall in Charleston.

This whimsical cow creamer is not part of the Butterfly Meadow set, but I think it blends perfectly with the pattern.  It has flowers, bees,

and butterflies.  The creamer is made by Gracie China, and I found it at our Tuesday Morning store when I first started blogging.  The stack of pink-bordered plates is also Butterfly Meadow.

Napkin rings have lady bugs...

and bees.

This table setting is a celebration of nature.  Most of us haven't been able to enjoy the outdoors much this summer, with record-breaking heat all over the world, it seems.  Here at our house, we've spent a lot of time watching the birds at our feeders and the rabbits and groundhogs from our kitchen window.  I sure hope some cooler weather is on the horizon for all of us.

What's blooming in your yard this summer?  I so appreciate your stopping by here today.  Your visits make my day!!  Have a wonderful weekend and stay cool.

  1. Very pretty summer table... I am glad that your flowers inspired you to keep it for a while longer.

You poor folks in the south and the midwest...I wish I could send you some cooling breezes. We may have had a few days in the 90s, but mostly it has been temperate and pleasant here.

    Many blessings...

  2. A lovely table, made for relaxing on a summer's day! I love picking flowers from the garden, though mine has been somewhat neglected this year. And lady bugs! What could be more fitting than having the gardener's friend at the table!

  3. Such a sweet table setting, Denise. I like the bee details on the glassware and flatware! We are going to be over 100 today and tomorrow. It's too hot in my opinion to do much of anything past 8am! Hope things cool down soon. We are supposed to cool down this coming week.

  4. Your table is so pretty Denise! I love Lenox Butterfly Meadow with its pretty flower and butterfly details. Your pitcher of hydrangeas and buddleia makes the perfect centerpiece on your pretty embroidered runner. I can relate to your description of the weather as a ‘big, moist, hot blanket’. :) The heat index was 105 here last week with mid 90 degree temps at 88% humidity. We’re enjoy a little reprieve and cooler temperatures today due the rain and storms that blew through last night. Stay cool. ♥
