Hello everyone!  Friday has rolled around yet again -- the start of another weekend.  I haven't posted here since the first week in June.  Shortly after I wrote that post about our family beach trip, Hal and I got Covid.  We came home from the beach the day before Memorial Day, and later that week Hal got Covid.  By the first of the following week, I had it, too.  We both had very mild cases; Hal thought his was just a head cold, but mine was just different enough that it made me decide to go to the doctor.  I had a bad case of pneumonia years ago; it was terrible, and I wanted to make sure I didn't have that again.  The worst thing about this Covid for us has been the cough and the way our energy got zapped.  However, we're almost completely back to normal again, and we are thankful.
I hope you all had a nice Fourth of July.  My friend, Vee, posted something that exactly summed up my thoughts about July 4th this year, and I was glad to read it.  You can see her post here.  Today, I'm sharing some pictures from Reynolda Gardens, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  We haven't done much lately other than try to stay cool indoors where it's air-conditioned.  I took these pictures last year, in the last week of July, so possibly many of the same things are blooming there right now.  The pictures were taken in the evening, so they all have a rather mellow (and sometimes) fuzzy quality.

This is a pretty butterfly bush; we planted one in our yard this spring.  We love it so much, we will try to plant two more in the fall.  Ours is a deep purple color called Black Knight.

Can anyone identify these white flowers?  I was quite taken with them -- I don't recall ever seeing any like these before.

Love these also; I think they might be freesias.

I love these cleomes and phlox.  I don't think I've ever been to Reynolda Gardens in the middle of summer when everything's in bloom.  I was delighted to see how beautiful they are.

The mystery flowers again.  ;)

Gorgeous lilies!!
Are you having a good summer?  Have you done anything fun or special?  It's been dreadfully hot here, and I gather other places are having the same conditions.  I'd love to hear from you and find out what you're doing this summer!  Thanks so much for visiting today and have a good weekend!

  1. Denise, I am sorry to hear you and your husband caught Covid....three of our family members did too, with similar symptoms...lasted about two weeks. Glad you are better! Honey, it has been so very hot here, not much going on. What a brutal summer this has been, I read Vee's post and totally agree with her....It's just plain disturbing....sending you a big hug!

  2. Oh I am sorry that you and Hal had covid and am very glad that things have improved so well. I take Dr. Zelenko's protocol (not his actual product, but the recipe) and have remained good thus far.

The flowers are gorgeous. I hope someone knows what the mystery flower is.

    Thanks for the mention, Denise.

    Have a good, safe weekend.

  3. Hello Denise, I'm sorry to read that you and Hal have had Covid. One of our daughters and her family caught it, too, and have had many of the same symptoms. The fatigue seems to last about 2-3 weeks. Beautiful garden flowers, and I cannot help you with the mystery flower. It's a pretty one, to be sure.
    Have a great weekend.

  4. Glad you read that you have both recovered well and hopefully with a good store of antibodies! The garden you visited had a wonderful display of flowers! Beautiful photos of them, too! Happy July to you.
