Closet Progress and A Purse Organizer

Hello everyone!  I hope you all enjoyed a beautiful weekend wherever you were.  We had a pretty weekend here, and a hot one.  A bit of Indian Summer in this first week of October.

I'm still in the grip of my cleaning and organizing frenzy.  Wow -- I know I've made some good progress, but there's still so much to do.  This is what I get for procrastinating.  :)  Our city gives everyone a large trash can for weekly pickup (I think it's about a 50 or 60 gallon can on wheels) and it was completely full yesterday evening, just in time for today's pickup.  That's a good thing because it's not always full, and that means I got a lot more junk cleaned out this weekend.

My closet is about 97 percent finished.  I do still have to go through some of my clothes, and I'm sure I'll be putting some of them back in the closet.  When I first posted about my big closet re-org, I mentioned that I had purchased a new purse organizer, and one of my friends commented that I should show a picture of said purse organizer.  These pics are for you, Dotsie.  :)

This is the way the organizer normally hangs, and you can see it doesn't take up a lot of space in the closet.  It's also designed to store flat, if need be, which is nice as well.  The individual "shelves" basically lay flat against the center section, and you just pull them down to put your purses on them.  It holds a total of eight purses.

I turned it around to face out so you can see what it looks like with the purses strapped in.  I'm really pleased with it so far.  I'm just showing this one part today because I want to wait until it's completely finished before I show the whole closet.

On the right side, second shelf from the top, I've actually stored a small, flat clutch and a Vera Bradley swing wallet, so this works well for smaller purses, as well as larger ones.  What more could a girl ask for?  :)

This weekend I also ordered some hanging sachets for the closet, and I'm looking forward to getting those.  Here's a picture and link to the sachets on Amazon.

Aren't they pretty?  Once I get a good look at them and see just how they're made, I think I can probably make some myself in the future.  Wouldn't these make nice little gifts or favors for bridal showers?

In addition to sorting my closet, I'm cleaning and re-organizing our whole bedroom.  I've almost finished with my dresser (three drawers left to do there).  I recently discovered that the air purifiers we have in our bedroom and den don't seem to be working anymore.  Since we've had them for over ten years, I'm not too surprised.

We purchased a new one for the bedroom online, and we received it last Tuesday.  We're really impressed with it so far.  I told Mr. Forest Manor it looks like the control panel of a spaceship at night when our bedroom lights are off.  :)  It's not really bright, though, and it doesn't disturb our sleep at all.  It's a Whirlpool Whispure Tower Air Purifier - HEPA Air Cleaner.  It wasn't cheap, but it had very good reviews and ratings on more than one website, and we expect that it will last us for a good many years.

Because I have asthma, it's really important that we have clean air in the house, especially in our bedroom.  My husband tends to catch more colds because he's in an office environment every day, so it's beneficial to both of us to have a good air purifier in our bedroom.  Neither of us are smokers, but we have the typical issues with dust and pollen that I think most people have.  Do you use air purifiers in any of the rooms in your house?

I also put out the fall decor in our den this weekend, and I like the way it looks.  I'll have pictures on the blog later this week.  In the meantime, I'm back to de-cluttering.  We've already had rain, wind, and thunder here this morning, and it looks like we're in for more of the same throughout the day -- remnants of tropical storm Karen, I suppose.  What's your weather like today?

I'll leave you with a couple of pretty fall pictures from a trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains two years ago.

I'm grateful for your visits and comments, as always, and I'd love to hear what kind of projects you're working on at the moment.  I hope you have a great day, and thank you for reading me!

Denise

  1. Wow, you are really going through things with a fine tooth comb. You'll be so pleased with all your efforts. The purse organizer looks like a great idea. We don't have any air filtration system in our home. We do sleep with the window open all year round - just a teeny crack in the winter, but it makes a huge difference. Our air quality here is excellent because of all the sea breezes.
What gorgeous colors in your photos of your trip. Such blue skies and orange pumpkins - a most cheerful combination.

  4. I'm inspired!!! I don't have my purses organized well. Half of them lounge around in my closet upstairs, and the other half hang out in the front closet from a hook. Pathetic. I love yours.

I also loved that you addressed the air purifier and the sense of smell. It just makes a difference, doesn't it?

BTW, I bought a blind for the kitchen door, had it cut to size, and we hung it up. I LOVE it! I love it more than the old mini blinds we used to have. I haven't even put a valance up, and ya know... I might just leave it like it is. THANK YOU so much for showing yours so I knew it would look good. You solved a problem for me.

  5. This reminds me of how disorganized my closet is. I donated two huge bags of clothes last week and I didn't even put a dent into my closet chaos. I admire your energy and dedication to getting the job done. Maybe I will get inspired now to get back to work on my closet.

  6. We were on vacation last week so I still have not started any organizing. Your posts make me want to but I just still can't get into that mindset. Hoping that a little nesting kicks in soon and maybe I will make some progress.
