Untitled

Hello Dear Friends.  Once again, I've been absent for a bit, but right now, I imagine everyone is so shell-shocked they haven't even noticed.  At the moment, I'm dealing with a case of Bell's Palsy for the third time in 26 years.  If you're not familiar with it, the short explanation is the doctors aren't sure what causes it, although a virus (not CoVid 19) is one of the possibilities.  At any rate, there is pressure on one of my cranial nerves, which causes a temporary (I sincerely hope) paralysis in the right side of my face.  It's difficult to blink my right eye, to eat and drink, and to talk.  Today makes a week since it first started, and I finished my round of steroids yesterday.  We're seeing a very slight improvement, so I hope it will heal completely, as it did the first two times.

So, that's enough about me and my small problems.  One of my daily pleasures during this time continues to be reading my blog roll every day and enjoying your lovely posts.  I happen to love my friend Lorrie's pictures and writing at Fabric, Paper, and Thread, as well as Betsy, at Estelle's blog, my friend Kitty, at Kitty's Kozy Kitchen, and all the other good recipe blogs I can find.  😋  At least I shouldn't gain any pounds just by reading the recipes.  Also, Courtney at French Country Cottage has gorgeous eye candy on a weekly basis.  You may be able to tell I've been trying to find my happy place this week.  It hasn't been easy.

Last weekend, Hal and I watched "Roman Holiday".  Such a fun movie!  We had never seen it before and both enjoyed it a lot.  I adore Audrey Hepburn, and this is only the second movie of hers that I've seen.  We thought this movie had a good message -- if only journalists were this ethical today.  They're not even in the ballpark, unfortunately.

I'm currently reading "The Moonstone," or I should really say trying to read.  The book is fine, but my eye is not cooperating; it gets tired so easily.  At this rate, it will take awhile for me to finish.

Back in the winter, I read this book by my friend, Mike, who blogs at "A Bit About Britain."  The book was well-written, and this Anglophile enjoyed learning more about Britain's history.  😉  I recommend it if you enjoy the history of Britain.

Summer is officially here now, and it's quite warm.  My hubs has a three-day weekend starting today, so we may go for a ride into the mountains, where it's usually cooler.  A change of scenery is usually good for what ails us.  Thank you for visiting House at Forest Manor.  Wishing you a good weekend, dear friends.

Blessings,

  2. Glad that you are improving day by day. Bell's Palsy does not sound at all pleasant and you have had it three times?! Is it something that stays in your system and pops up from time to time? I'll do some reading on that.

I remember reading that classic...the first detective thriller or something like that. I didn't enjoy it and have never tried re-reading it to see if an adult mind would enjoy it more than a teenage one.

Take care of yourself, Denise. Pleasant pursuits and all that...

  6. I’m so very sorry that you have Bell’s Paksy for the third time, Denise!!! My son, Mike, that lives Here with me, had it several years ago when he was doing post graduate work. We didn’t know what it was and I took him to the emergency room. His lasted for quite some time, but he kept on with life. I hope yours clears up very soon. God bless you! Thank you for mentioning my recipes. 😘
