Americana

We desperately felt the need for a change of scenery last Monday (Labor Day).  Besides, I have a new camera that I haven't had a chance to use lately, and I can always use the practice.  It's a Sony Alpha 5100 -- a compact camera.  I really like the Canon Rebel, but it gets awfully heavy on long outings.

On this day, we grabbed a few snacks out of the kitchen, put Mr. Duncan on his leash and into the car, and headed for the mountains.  It was hot here at home, but somewhat cooler in the mountains of Virginia.

These Zinnias were blooming on Highway 52 as we headed north towards Virginia.  The N.C. Department of Transportation plants them every year along various highways and interstates.

In the community of Woolwine, Virginia, in northern Patrick County, we stopped to take some pictures.  The sky was absolutely beautiful that day; these kind of cloud formations add so much interest to pictures.

The light was perfect for creating lovely shadows.

From the church grounds, we could see the elementary school with its pretty, green roof.

See what I mean about the clouds?

and the shadows?  :)

Thank you so much for visiting and have a great day!

Blessings,

  5. I love the pictures. I am a cloud person and always look for a cloud that looks like something else. In the very first church picture I see an airplane, you can see the tail, the body of the plane, and the wing on the far side. The countryside is so green, and I love the way they plant flowers alongside the highways. Jill
