Many of you may know that I have a real affinity for these little guys --
I just love this picture!! Although how the photographer ever got them to "pose" for this picture is a mystery to me -- must have caught them when they were about to go to sleep or just waking up. :) I love dogs, but like many dog owners, I do have a favorite breed, and that would be the Scottish Terrier. My family had one when I was growing up, and that's when I became a lifelong fan.
During our married life, we've had one black and one wheaten Scottie.
We lost our wheaten Scottie, MacDuff, this past November; he'd been with us for 13 1/2 years. This was the first Christmas we haven't had a dog in our home since 1989.
On January 4th, we received an after-Christmas gift in the form of an e-mail from a Scottie breeder. She wrote to let us know that one of her females had given birth to a litter of seven puppies on January 3rd. We were eighth in line on the waiting list, and on Sunday, she e-mailed to let us know that one of the people in front of us was opting out, which meant there was a puppy left for us, if we wanted it.

It looks like we'll be bringing a new puppy home around the end of February now. I'm excited and a little nervous. Since our son has moved out, a puppy will definitely brighten up the household, but until they get properly house-trained, they do limit your activities somewhat.
One thing we've learned about dogs is that you may get the same breed over and over, but you'll never get the same personality. Oh there are certain personality traits that are common to the breed in general, but each puppy and dog has its own distinct personality. So I mustn't expect to get another dog exactly like MacDuff. I still miss MacDuff, but it will be an adventure to get to know our new puppy. I know we will love him, and I think MacDuff would approve. :)
Here's a picture that the breeder e-mailed us yesterday -- this is a Pile 'O Puppies, don't you think? :-D
I added the text so you can see which pup is ours (at least I think that's the one). I've already forwarded the picture to our son. :) They don't look a thing like Scottish Terriers, do they? Trust me though; they will. They were only four days old in this picture. I love the way they sleep all draped over one another; it's a good way to keep warm for sure.
I hope you stay warm and safe today; it's forecast to be another cold one. Thanks so much for visiting House at Forest Manor; your visits and comments make my day!

Hi Denise. Oh, I'm thrilled for you getting a new little baby. I do know the pain of loosing a life long pet and they are so much more than pets. Your little new one will keep you on your toes and I'll be looking forward to seeing pictures of him when he comes home to you.
ReplyDeletebe a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Aw, I'm so glad you'll be getting a new little pup! No doubt he will add lots of excitement to your home:@)
ReplyDeleteIt is exciting to add a new member to your family. Hope he brings you as much joy as possible, Denise!
ReplyDeleteThat is going to add a new dimension to your lives! I think if we got a dog again, which we aren't planning to, it would be a Scottish Terrier!
ReplyDeleteThis is terrific news.... are you taking votes on a few names:) I wanna play lol...
ReplyDeleteCant wait to see more pics...

Sad about McDuff. I know the pain of loosing a family pet, so am thrilled that you will have a new puppy to love and fill your life with joy. We waited over 20 years before getting another dog after we lost our beloved Lhasa Apso. Sadie came to live with us almost two years ago now. We are so blessed!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear of losing McDuff. Losing a beloved pet is almost like losing a member of the family. But I am happy to hear that a new puppy will be joining your lives. I can't believe how little they are ! Looking forward to LOTS of pictures. I grew up with a Westie and now have 2 Bedlingtons.

A new puppy! How exciting.
ReplyDeleteWe lost our dog in June, a German Shorthaired pointer my husband rescued from the pound. He was part of our family for 14 years and was 15. What a great dog and we miss him. You are so right about staying with one breed. As we look for dogs on rescue sights and Craigslist, some have Max's face and we wonder if our expectations would be too much. A little pup will brighten up your home. We are excited to meet him/ her.
ReplyDeleteWell, you might recall that I happen to love that breed. I so so sad when you lost MacDuff and am excited for you about your new addition to the life adventure. Have you chosen a name yet, or are you waiting for the big introduction? Scotties just lend themselves to the best names, IMO.
ReplyDeleteOh Denise, this is exciting news for you! I look forward to hearing the name of your new puppy and seeing a picture when he comes home. xo
ReplyDeleteI know for a fact that this is a lucky puppy. He is going to a good "puppy" home. I know you all are really missing MacDuff. Love you, Mom
ReplyDeleteI am SO excited!!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like the newest member of the family will be a brindle! My grandmother's last Scottie was a brindle and coincidentally his name was Mac. I just love a little legged dog!
Pretty good post. I just stumbled upon your blog and wanted to say that I have really enjoyed reading your blog posts. Any way I'll be subscribing to your feed and I hope you post again soon. Big thanks for the useful info.
