I've Been Away

Greetings everyone!  How are you?  I've been away from blog land for a bit (almost three weeks actually).  Life has really kept me busy lately.  My dad was in the hospital for a few days last week.  Because of his serious health problems, life has become difficult and stressful for my parents.  They are handling things to the best of their abilities, but my sister and I still worry about them.  I don't say much about that here because I'm not really comfortable talking about it on my blog at the moment.  I know many of you have been through similar experiences, and you can probably relate.

My husband was on vacation last week, and we took our annual trip to the mountains near the end of the week.

Lake Santeetlah

Great Smoky Mountains

It was fun, but we're always worn out when we get home.  We take the little convertible, and it's not the smoothest riding car ever.  {;)

It's always really hot and humid up there in July, and I feel like I've been through the wringer by the time we get home.  I'm just not a hot weather kind of person.  It was nice to get away, and then it was nice to get back home.

When I was growing up, I always thought the mountains had to be cooler than the Piedmont, where we live.  Not necessarily.  It depends on what part of the mountains you go to.  The town we go to in western North Carolina is more southwesterly (it's actually only two hours from Atlanta, GA), and it can be quite hot there.  The second summer we were married, we went to Charlottesville, VA, during the Fourth of July week.  Yikes!!  It was hot at home that year, and I thought we'd go to the mountains and cool off.  Oh, it was so hot there!  I can still remember hearing the weather report that week as we were baking in the mountains, and it was about 10-12 degrees cooler at the beach.  I'd love to go back to Charlottesville, but not in July.

As always though, we saw lots of beautiful scenery last week in this area of Appalachia.

We took this photo on the Cherohala Skyway; the street signs are written in English and in Cherokee.  I think the top road name may be symbolic -- what do you think?

In other news, Duncan got a new haircut.

Can you see the mischief popping out?

I'll soon be stopping in to see all my blogging friends (you know who you are)  :-D  to catch up on what you've been up to.  I hope you don't think I've forgotten you!!  From what I hear, it seems to be very hot and humid all up and down the east coast, so I hope you're all managing to stay cool.  As always, thanks so much for reading House at Forest Manor and have a terrific weekend!

Denise

  2. Hi Denise! I've missed you. I'm so sorry to hear of your Dad's illness. Hoping he does well. Oh, I can relate about the hot places. I don't do well in the hot weather either. Little Duncan's hair cut is darling. He is sure a pretty little guy. Take your time and rest up.
    Be a sweetie,

  3. The AC is running here tonight. =D

I am sorry that your dad has been seriously ill. Praying for a restoration to health and clarity for all decisions that your parents might be making. It's not easy watching parents struggle so praying for your sister and you.

Glad that you got away. Your cute little car would kill me! (Cute license plate, too.) Duncan looks cool and suave...perhaps an extra twinkle in his eye.

  4. I'm sorry to hear about your father and hope he improves. I know it weighs heavily on you and your sister. I guess we were near each other on vacation last week, and yes, it was just steaming. I thought it would be a tad cooler in the mountains and it probably was a few degrees less than home, but the humidity was way too high for me!

  5. It's good to hear from you, Denise, but I'm so sorry about your Dad's health issues and the stress that it all entails. Believe me, I totally understand. It was so good that and your hubby could get away for a bit. I love your license plate...too cute!!
    Prayers are with you.

  6. Glad you could get away but sorry about the heat and humidity. I just melt in those conditions. We are having another heat wave here in the Pacific Northwest. Ugh. It's so hard to watch our parents when their health fails them. It's nice that you and your sister care for them. Praying for all of you right now as you walk through these days.

  7. Hi Denise, I have missed visiting here. Sorry to hear about your dad. Summer has been nice and warm, this week it hit 90 a couple of days. Always worried about power outages. Hope he is feeling better. I have been so bad with blogging. I always think I am going to be better but it does not happen!
