Poor Anna, having to go to the chemist's shop to buy contraceptives for Mary and Lord Gillingham. Seriously??!! I couldn't believe Mary asked ordered her to do that. I'm just looking ahead and picturing this little purchase on Anna's part somehow getting back to Anna's husband, and then Bates jumping to the wrong conclusion, as things are already strained between them at the moment. Then, even though Mary is about to go away for a clandestine weekend with Lord Gillingham, she still hopes that Charles Blake is interested in her. Sigh. This episode doesn't present Mary at her finest, by any means. I personally prefer Charles over Tony, but that's just me.
As usual, I'm not sure what to think about Edith. No one seems very lovable in this episode (including Lord Grantham) and that's just the family. Below stairs, Thomas is, as usual, going out of his way to be nasty to everyone, and then wishing aloud that people liked him better. Pllleease.

I'm not a big fan of Sarah Bunting, but I did find her a little more tolerable in this episode. I do like Mrs. Patmore and Daisy. :) I can't quite figure out what Violet is up to with Isobel and Lord Merton. Has anyone else figured that out? I have to tell you that it's a wonder I can follow this season at all, because we have to try and listen to the dialogue above the sounds of a barking, demanding Scottish Terrier who is very jealous and resentful of our TV time in the evenings.
I enjoyed the special about the Queen's Garden at Buckingham Palace, which came on right after Downton Abbey. Well, the saga continues. I just wanted to see what you thought of this week's episode. Thanks for stopping by -- I always enjoy your visits! Have a good week.

Anna in the pharmacy was a great scene! I'm not really thrilled with the Mr. Green murder storyline. We already had Mr. Bates as a possible killer and it feels like we've seen it before.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Vickie. I wish they would clear all that up already.
DeleteI've seen the whole season so I'll just tell you to hang in there - it gets better!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lorrie. I always watch the full season; sometimes there's a lot of eye-rolling from Mr. Forest Manor, but he watches too. I think Sir Julian Fellowes likes to stir the pot a bit at the beginning of the season, don't you? :)
DeleteNot a fan of Miss Bunting. I vote for Charles over Tony, too. I couldn't help but think some art was going to be stolen...
ReplyDeleteLord Grantham was an idiot in this episode, especially when he didn't notice who the art dealer/historian was really flirting with. His shining moment was with how he treated the woman in the village. I like to buy the DVD so we can put the subtitles on and not miss a beat...
So funny, Ellen. :-D You hit the nail on the head with every comment. Honestly, who would flirt with a dog?! Cora has more patience than I do. ;) I often think Lord Grantham is better at relating to the villagers than to his family, don't you? I hadn't even considered an art theft, but I bet you're exactly right.
DeleteI love the banter between Isobel and Violet, Denise! They sure get in their jabs at each other, don't they? I have to put on subtitles when I'm watching because I can't always figure out what they're saying! Yes, poor Mary at the pharmacy. I was so nervous for her, thinking someone would spot her!
ReplyDeleteYes, Kitty, I love that banter, too! I think a lot of people might stop watching the show if Maggie Smith were to leave, what do you think?
DeleteDenise, I thought it was a little risque in some parts. A slight change from the norm. But was cute of Anna in the pharmacy. Can't stand that nasty Thomas, and what is the problem between Mr.Bates and Anna? They really are acting funny together. I know something happened last season, but I can't remember! I hate when there is so much time in between. We are now watching Breaking Bad from Netflix. That show was cancelled so I like it when I can keep the story flowing. That is a great show but you must remember that I am a fan of American Horror Story!!..Happy Wednesday..Judy
ReplyDeleteYes, you can tell we are moving into a more promiscuous era, before everything was kept secretly hidden.
ReplyDeleteIt was most definitely a system of Upstairs and Downstairs !
Are you watching the Great British Baking Show ?
My grandmother owned her owned bakery for thirty five years, it brings back so many memories of when I worked side by side with her, especially in the bread baking episode.
I miss Doc Martin, I hope it returns.
