Biltmore Candlelight Tour, Part 2

Happy New Year everyone!  I'm trying to crank out these Biltmore posts before people no longer have an interest in seeing Christmas pictures.  It's been very time consuming though, because Hal took 409 pictures that evening.  Even though I won't be sharing all of them, I'll be sharing quite a few, so you might want to get comfortable before you start reading.  ;)

The painting on the right side of this photo is of Edith Vanderbilt, George Vanderbilt's wife and lady of the manor.  :)

The fireplace with tall candelabrum and tapestries on either side.

This wreath was on the wall opposite the fireplace in the Tapestry Gallery.  The talented people who decorate here for Christmas do an amazing job.

Tea time with gorgeous china.

The tree on the left behind the table was so, so pretty.

The same tree appears in both these pictures.

The teapot is exquisite, isn't it?  I noticed after writing this post that the spout of the teapot is in the shape of a dragon's head.  If you click on the picture to enlarge, you can see it more clearly.  The glow on the left of the picture is coming from the fireplace.

I showed you a peak at this Nativity in the previous post.  It's one of the prettiest I've ever seen.

That fire was so cozy!

Here's a closer look at Edith's portrait.

This is a cozy looking scene -- love the clock and lamp on the table.

I hope you enjoyed seeing the Tapestry Gallery by fire and candlelight.  I've come to the conclusion that Biltmore is not a house, it's a castle.  Whether house or castle, it was once a home (the largest private residence in the country) to real people -- a family and their domestic servants.  Just like last Christmas, I couldn't help but think of Downton Abbey as I walked through these homes and saw evidence of lives once lived here -- family photos, books, children's toys, dishes set out for tea.  If you'd like to know more about the Vanderbilt family and see pictures from last year's visit, you can find those Here and Here.

Thanks so much for joining me on the tour!  I hope you've all had a blessed holiday season and I wish you the very best in 2017.

Hugs XX,

Denise

  2. Exquisite! I agree with Ellen...that Nativity is quite extraordinary and somehow modern in its realism. I am sure that you could have been seated in that room and just enjoy the fire and the entire ambiance. It is truly an amazing place.

  3. Everything throughout is lovely and the nativity set is exquisite. I'd be envied by all if that teapot lived at my house. lol

  4. I love seeing your pictures of Vanderbilt mansion. I could see all 409 all year. Doesn't have to be just Christmas. Thank you so much for sharing. Now back for a second look. Happy New Year - Betsy
