A Pink and Green Tablescape

Back in the first week of July, we gathered at my parents' house to celebrate my dad's birthday, which was July 3rd.  We had a delicious summer meal of grilled hot dogs with all the fixings (including my mom's homemade chili), baked beans, potato chips, Asian coleslaw, deviled eggs, and homemade ice cream for dessert.  It was wonderful!  :)

My mom had set the prettiest table in her dining room -- just a summer tablescape that she planned to leave out for a few weeks or a month, since they only eat in the dining room on special occasions.  I just fell in love with these dishes and the tablescape, so I wanted to share it with you.

A picture with the wide-angle lens.

These floral-patterned dishes were a gift to my mom from her friend and neighbor, Susie.  They came from Home Goods, and I just love them.  The brand is "222 5th PTS International," and I've seen this brand a lot at Home Goods.  They make all sorts of patterns, and you could collect a real variety to use for tablescaping at a reasonable price.  My mom looked online to see about buying some more of these; she found the brand, but couldn't find any of this same pattern.  I think the colors are just beautiful for spring and summer.

The green square plates are from Pier One; the white square plates are from Home Goods.  The green goblets are from Dollar General.  I like the scalloped, quilted placemats, and the napkins are a perfect match.

I really love these pink napkin rings; I've seen these in various colors on lots of tablescapes, and I've got to see about getting some for myself.

These dishes were such a nice gift.  Mom's neighbor loves to set pretty tables, too, and she's always happy to share her dishes and accessories with my mom.  This floral set included four salad plates, four smaller (dessert or bread and butter) plates, and a two-tiered serving dish, which you can see in the top right corner of this picture.  Here's a better view of the serving piece below.

Isn't this pretty?  I'm a big fan of pink, and I love all the various shades of pink on this table.

The pink depression glass pieces belonged to my mother's grandparents.

I also love this centerpiece of cheerful summer flowers!  You can find such pretty silk flowers these days, and they're such a good investment.  Real flowers are wonderful, but most of us don't find it practical or convenient to have them on our tables everyday.

The pink hobnail vase belonged to my mom's grandparents, as well.  Family treasures are the best, aren't they?

I love the idea of putting the flameless candles on the dessert plates -- makes them show up so much better.

A bird's-eye view below...

And one last picture...

Thank you mom, for letting me share these pictures; this tablescape is one of my very favorites!  If you'd like to see some pics of my parents' pretty porch, I wrote about that Here last summer.

I really can't believe it's August already; I don't know where this summer has gone.  I know that sounds like a cliché, but it really is true this summer.  My husband has barely gotten any time off from work since the beginning of this year; our vacation two weeks ago was the first full week he's taken off all year.  How about you -- have you done anything fun or exciting this summer?  I've seen some pretty travel posts and gardening posts this summer; it looks like everyone is staying quite busy.

Thank you for reading my blog; I love your visits and your kind comments.  Wishing you all a lovely day!

  2. Ahhh...the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree. What a lovely table, but then I am partial to pinks and greens combinations. And I love pink depression glass or green depression glass or gold depression glass...perhaps I just love depression glass. Very sweet tablescape...your mother did a beautiful job.

  4. Pink is my color. It's nice to be able to decorate a beautiful table and leave it to enjoy. Around here, the dining table is sometimes a catch-all. And she has combined the old with the new to make a beautiful setting. Summer is winding down. For the first time in many years I will not be heading out the door to meet a new class of college freshmen. Seems a bit weird, so summer will just go on a bit more for me.

  6. I love the table. Pink and green is a favorite color combination around here. It's strange because I don't have one bit of it in this house now that the girls are grown up. I love the place setting with the square dishes.

Our summer? It has been one bit fat dud of a summer. We didn't go anywhere for vacation. We didn't really have the funds for it, and the girls weren't home anyway.

(In my next life, I'll be the First Lady so I can vacation every month or so to exotic and pricey places on someone else's dime. )

  13. Your mom's table is lovely Denise! I love the mix of pink and green with her floral dishes and square plate layers! I see that brand in HomeGoods a lot, it's always tempting to pick up a set of 4 salad plates for the same price as 4 Starbucks Grande Skinny Cinnamon Dulce Lattes. Can you tell I traded my Starbucks habit for a dish one? :) Enjoy the rest of your summer!

  14. Very, very pretty! I especially like the pink depression glass. And you know, I couldn't tell those were silk flowers, so you're right, good investment, I should start getting some, esp when I see it at thrift stores, because real ones just cost too much and then they die. I like flameless candles too and use them a lot. Great table, take care - Dawn

  20. What a lovely table. I like how the green place mats pick up the green in the plates.

I haven't had a vacation in 25 years. I barely remember what it means. :)
But I live at the beach, so I am not complaining. People come here for vacations.
