Pretty In Plaid

I'm re-posting a Christmas tablescape that I originally published on January 6th of this year.  I didn't get it up by Christmas last year because my dad had been in the hospital, and December was a stressful month for all of us. This is one of my very favorite tablescapes, and I hope you enjoy seeing it.  I'll be linking this tablescape to Let's Dish, hosted by Cuisine Kathleen on Wednesday evening, and Tablescape Thursday at Between Naps on the Porch.  Thanks to both of these ladies for hosting.  I look forward to seeing you there.

Hi everyone!  Happy Twelfth Day of Christmas and Happy New Year!  Except for a couple of very small posts, I've been absent from blogging since early in December.

My dad underwent open heart surgery on December 29th to replace a leaking valve, and I'm so happy to report that he is doing very well!  Our family is extremely THANKFUL!!

They say that timing is everything, and my timing is just about too late for a Christmas tablescape. :)  I'm just barely in time for Epiphany; but I couldn't let the season go by without a Christmas tablescape.

I'll try to keep the wording to a minimum on this post, as it is late at night, and I'm very tired.  I've always wanted to do a Christmas table with plaids, and this year, I finally did it.  I love tartan plaids, especially in winter, so this table was a lot of fun for me to put together.

The centerpiece is all faux greenery and berries in a beautifully painted cache pot.  It was a Christmas gift from my husband's grandmother several years ago.  I've enjoyed it so very much.  Brass candlesticks with Colonial Candles in Cranberry and faux Boxwood candle rings.

Red napkins with ivy and poinsettia cutwork from The Christmas Tree Shop coordinate with red quilted placemats from Steinmart.  The napkin rings are Lenox "Nouveau Plaid".

Festive party plate with plaid bow and bottle brush trees.

I love, love this cutwork table runner with gold stitching on the holly leaves and berries.  The greenery on this plate is real, from our Holly tree and Nandina bushes.  I even found a plaid pillar candle this year.

Dressed for the hunt in a tartan plaid skirt...

A close-up of the cache pot...

Another view of the cache pot...

The Christmas crackers we've had for many years.

Our terra cotta Nativity on a plaid table runner.

As usual, I saved the candlelight shots for last.  I love this kissing ball hanging from the chandelier.  I found it several years ago at a local gift shop.

If you look really hard, you can see the design on this glass plate, a long-ago purchase from our Reading China.  I was so disappointed when they closed their stores in North Carolina.  The etched design depicts a Christmas tree, surrounded by a little village, trees, people, and a snowman.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas holiday blessed with family, friends, and love.  As always, I thank you for stopping by the House at Forest Manor.  I really enjoy your visits and I read each and every one of your comments.  May 2012 be a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous year for all of you.

Denise

  1. I'm glad to hear that he's doing well. I was pretty sparse during the season too. I just couldn't fit it all in.

I never did a Christmas table for BNOTP. Yours is really warm and beautiful. I love plaid/tartan patterns so this one really speaks to me. The centerpiece is absolutely beautiful, too. I love those chargers. I need a visit to the CTS.

I'm hoping to post more tables in 2012. I enjoy doing them and seeing them so much, and I'm trying to do the things I enjoy instead of always slaving away to the stuff I'm supposed to do.

  2. Thanks so much Debbie. This table turned out to be one of my favorites. I, too, want to post more tables in 2012. That's one of my blogging goals. I've been blogging for almost a year now -- hard to believe.

We just got a CTS store in Greensboro last fall; I've found several good bargains there.

Thanks for your kind inquiries about my dad.

    Blessings,

    Denise

I can only imagine what a scary time that must have been for your family. Wonderful to know that he is recovering well now and that you guys can breathe a sigh of relief. Tell him that a weird little lady from the Midwest is praying for him! :-) Meanwhile, you did a magnificent job with this tablescape, Denise!!! I saw those fabulous tartan napkin rings and wanted the SO bad...but I resisted. You paired them up so nicely with all the other beautiful table elements...and the striking bear all ready for the hunt! :-) Those are great musical candles in the wall sconces, too!!! VERY cool!!! Beautiful job, my dear! Bravo to the nth power! Happy New Year to you and your family!
