The Winter Dining Room (And a New Piece of Furniture)

Happy Monday and Happy February everyone!  Wow, where did January go?  I hope you're all having a good winter and staying healthy.

Today, I'm sharing our dining room after all the festive Christmas decor has been put away for another year.  It looks calm and soothing right now, and that suits me.

These are my go-to placemats, but I haven't used them in quite a while.  I purchased these in Ireland on our long ago trip in 1999.  They're hard surface with a cork back; we saw a lot of these in England and Ireland, mostly in the pubs and restaurants.  I've also had this table runner for ten years.  I used it in my very first tablescape on this blog, which is kind of a lead-in to announcing that as of last month, I've been blogging for ten years.  I just can't believe it's been that long!

I've used my favorite battery, LED candles from Costco to help create a cozy winter look.  This will help out until the daylight hours get longer here.  I just took the candles down from our Christmas mantel and put them on this silver tray, which I used on the living room coffee table at Christmas.

I love the silver snowflakes on this table runner.

I put away the brass candlesticks and got out my crystal ones, adding the glitter tree candles my mom gave me years ago.  I also used these in that first tablescape.

The other end of the table.

And here's the newest addition to our dining room -- no, not the tapestry, but the cart underneath it.  😊
I purchased this from Wayfair with some of my Christmas money this year.  Our parents give us money for Christmas every year, and I usually already have something in mind that I want to buy with my portion.  I have to tell you, I'm really happy with this purchase.  It was a good price (with free shipping, too) and it seems to be well made.  It took Hal less than an hour to assemble it.  If you're interested, you can find this cart/table here.  The color I chose is Antique Slate; it's also available in Antique Green (a beautiful color which I almost got) and Antique White.

I really love the carved medallions on the legs.

This table also has a slightly distressed look, but not too chippy, which I'm quite happy with.  I'm not really into "chippy."  😉

The tray on top has cut-out handles and is removable, which I thought would be convenient for serving tea, or other libations.

I gave my husband the stag's horn bottle top for Christmas; it came from our favorite Scottish store -- Gretna Green online.  According to the website, it's made from shed antlers, so the deer weren't killed just to get this piece of antler.  The two glasses in front have our family tartan and crest on them.  They came from Gretna Green last year.  On the other end of the table, I added a faux floral arrangement and a few pieces of my Belleek.

The legs have fitted metal casters, which turn it from a tray table to a cart.  We've never had a buffet in our dining room, but I thought this piece would suffice.  So far, I'm enjoying it very much.

My husband's co-worker brought us the bottle on the left front of the table last week.  She bought a kit to turn it into this --

This string of LED lights puts out a lot of light, and it's fun to turn on at night.  The switch is on the "cork" in the top of the bottle.

So that's the winter dining room with the new serving cart/table.  I'll be joining Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for Metamorphosis Monday.  Thank you so much for visiting and reading my blog.  I hope you have a great week!

  5. It was great to hear from you, Denise! I appreciate your visit so much. It is hard to believe we have been blogging ten years!
I'm so glad you like your new piece of furniture. It is very pretty and useful too. I spied the lovely vase of camellias! Your Belleek pieces look nice there too. I'm sure if I went to Ireland I would have to have a piece myself.
I like the cork backed placemats and have several sets of those. I was attracted to them because they don't stain or fade or wrinkle. LOL!
I'm so glad you shared your lovely dining room today.

  8. Congratulations on your ten years of blogging. It reminded me of the joke your Daddy played on you with his "workbench scape". The tea cart is really a nice addition to your dining room. Those flowers look so real; they are very pretty. Love you, Mom
