Hello March!

I've been away from my blog for almost a month -- again.  I took a break to get some things done around here.  I have to tell you, it sure feels good to be back.  :)  I really miss my blog if I'm away for too long -- are you like that, too?

Here are a few of the things we've been up to...

On Valentine's Day, we tried a new (to us) restaurant in the heart of downtown.  It's an Italian restaurant called "Quanto Basta."  The food was delicious, and it was fun to look out on the downtown area from our table.

We have at least four authentic Italian restaurants near us, and they're all quite different from one another.  We've now eaten at three of these restaurants, and we have to try the "Kitchen Roselli" next.  I can't wait!  My parents have eaten there several times, and they say it's wonderful.

Also in February, we got the new carpet installed in our den.  I'm happy to report that we love it!!  I was so worried that we had made a bad selection; it's so hard to tell how the carpet will look when you've only got a very small sample to go by.  To make things even more difficult, the sample we were looking at was on a board with about 20 other similar samples -- so confusing.  I was really afraid it would look too dark once it was on the floor, but it's just right.

On Sunday, February 26th, we celebrated Hal's grandmother's 100th birthday.

It was a really nice party; we think over 100 guests were there.  I'll write more about that in another post.

I've also discovered the addiction joys of online solitaire.  I told Hal that this is why we probably don't need to go to Vegas.  😉

We've had the strangest winter here.  With the exception of a fairly big snow back in January and some really cold temperatures then, our winter has been unusually mild, even for North Carolina.  It would seem that we've had April and May in January and February, and now we're having January and February in March.  Are you confused yet?  Me too.  ;)  All of our flowering trees are in full bloom, and when Easter gets here, we may not have anything blooming.  A hard freeze is predicted for our area tonight, so we shall see.  I can't complain, though, because I know those of you in the northeast have had some major cold and snow this winter.

This post was just to say "Hello" to you all and to let you know I'm still around.  Thank you so much for stopping by; your interest makes writing this blog worthwhile.  Have a great weekend!

Hugs,

Denise

  1. Well howdy! Hal's grandmother is lovely! What a milestone...

I have never been gone for a month...yet...I'm inclined to think that I could walk for good at that point only because I know that I'm in danger for fewer stretches of time so food for you getting back here.

Hope that we'll get to see the new carpet and hear more about the birthday girl!

  3. Yes I agree. I have been away from mine a lot this winter. Not intentionally, just a load of other stuff. So you have had a mild winter. I have known deep snow in N.C.when we could not get from Blowing Rock to Boone.Been VERY changeable here in the South East of England. Thick frost, fog, almost constant rain with a few sunny days in between.

  4. Your grandmother in law is a young looking 100! I'm thankful nothing was ruined in our freeze that I can see, but you're right, all the color may be gone by Easter. So unusual this year.

  5. Hal's grandmother looks great for 100 and is dressed nicely for the occasion. Yes, while you're having a mild time of it, our winter has been quite cold and lots of snow at times. Right now the ground is almost bare again but snow predicted for later in the week.
