A Cottage With A Touch of the Irish

Happy St. Patrick's Day to you!  Are you wearing your green today?  We've just returned from a quick trip to the coast.  We had three whole days there, and even though it rained all day Saturday, we still had a wonderful time.  It's always good to get away when we have a chance.

While we were in the area, we spent some time in Southport, one of my very favorite places in the world.  We took some more house pictures, and I'll share those with you later.  Today, I want to show you this cute cottage where the owner apparently has a love for all things Irish.

The cottage itself is small but loaded with charm.

Notice the Ireland banner on the left side of the porch and the shamrock on the front door.

You can just get a glimpse of the lace curtains in the window here.  I love these old-fashioned shutters.

A Celtic cross...

This little house sits on a corner lot.  I had just planned to take a few snaps of the house, but as I walked across the yard back towards the street, I was captivated by her cute, cottage garden.

I love the whimsy of this rock with the face carved in it.  :)

Here's another Celtic knot pattern on the base of this bird bath.

There are so many great garden ideas here in this one yard.

This was one of my favorites.

A pretty Camellia bush in bloom around back.

These glass chimes were making such a nice sound in the breeze -- so pretty when the light hits them.  I love all the garden art here and the great little front porch, but one of the very best things about this cottage --

is the view.

Thanks so much for your visit and Happy St. Patrick's Day!

  1. Oh, what a darling place! I adore the garden and all of the details. The owner left those cute little dishes out like that? I think the blue ladder and those red shelved on the gate are my favorites! Now I want to go inside. Glad you had a nice time.

  2. How nice that you were able to get away to the shore and enjoy some of your favorites. I smiled when I saw one of the planters (the boy with the cart) I have that exact piece. I bought mine at Goodwill. Hope your week is nice...Happy St. Patty's day to you and yes, I am wearing green today!

  4. Cute, cute place! It sounds like we were at the beach at the same time! We stayed inside all day Saturday and just enjoyed the wind and the rain from inside. Perfect for napping and reading.

  5. Happy St. Paddy's Day, belated, Denise. What a sweet place you got to. Go there often?
It always surprises visitors and immigrants that people in Ontario often talk about heading to 'the cottage' on the weekends. As if everyone shares the same cottage. (In Manitoba, I think they say "we're going to 'the camp', which is another word for 'the cottage'.) But they are less and less the sweet little cottage in your post, and more and more monster mansions on the lake. I keep thinking we've lost something of our national heritage when wherever you go, you see these enormous modern 'cottages" that look finer than city homes.

  6. Hi Denise. What a quaint and cute little cottage. The pure definition of the word. It's too bad you couldn't have visited with the lady of the house. I bet she would have a great story. I'm a day late for St. Patrick's Day wishes, but whenever I think of Irish, I think of you and my boy Duncan..Happy Wednesday..Judy

  7. What a sweet cottage with the whimsical garden figures and other pieces of art. A kindred spirit for sure who enjoys gardening and tea things in the garden.
I could never put teapots and such on shelves as this woman has done because the squirrels would knock them off as they've done with some of my garden accessories already.

  10. What a truly charming space. A smile was brought to my face with the "birdbath" and the happy face rock. Such delightful whimsy.
Thank you so very much for your input on painting my front door. Alas, rain is predicted through Tuesday but it WILL eventually be done!
    Have a lovely weekend!
