Comfort Food For a Cold Night

I'm making a double batch of chili in the crock pot today.  I love to smell it cooking throughout the day.  :)

I made some a few weeks ago for my husband to take to work.  It smelled so good, I wanted to keep some for us, but there was none to spare.

This time I'll have extra, and our son can have some this weekend.  :)

I'll make a skillet of buttermilk cornbread to go with it, and we'll be set.  I don't make my chili really spicy anyway, but I think the buttered cornbread offsets the heat of the chili nicely.

In case you're wondering, my kitchen is not normally this neat and tidy when I'm cooking.  I'm a messy cook; I dirty up lots of dishes, spoons, cutting boards, measuring cups, and pots and pans when I'm cooking.  ;)  But -- I didn't think you'd really want to see all that, so I tidied up for the pictures.

We really do enjoy our "new" kitchen.  It's so much more cheerful and efficient than it was before the renovation.  I'm thankful we could finally afford to get that done.  Comfort food and Thursday night television -- we like to watch "The Big Bang Theory" and "Elementary" on Thursday nights -- how about you?  Thanks so much for your visit -- stay warm and safe out there in the snow and ice!

  1. Sounds delicious, Denise. We love chili, but with a little kick...must be from living in Phoenix all those years! On this cold night we are having potato soup...and rosemary flatbread.
    Have a wonderful weekend.

  7. Chili sounds so good for a nice bowl of comfort food, Denise. I like to serve cornbread with it, too. Your kitchen does look so pretty and I think I've told you before that I think we have the same counters.
    Enjoy your weekend!
